“Redeeming Power – How Justice is Woven Into the Gospel”
Power is a sensitive issue – and one which mostof us don’t like having conversations about. However, power is something Godhas given each of His image bearers to use in bringing about a reflection ofHis beautiful character. Thus, it’s important we think about power and thegospel’s implications on how it is used. Ever since the fall, we have corruptedthe way we use power. This corruption of power has severe consequences for God’soriginal plan – slavery being one of the worst byproducts. Slavery is theexploitation of an image bearer for one’s own selfish gain. As we look to theexample of Christ on the cross, He teaches His followers how power can beredeemed and used to bring flourishing once again through the abolition ofslavery – flourishing that will show the world there is a God who rescues, restores, and is perfectly just.
